We join the leadership of the University of Iowa, the American Institute of Physics, the American Physical Society, the American Astronomical Society, the American Geophysical Union and all other scientific societies, in condemning racism. We reaffirm our commitment to making the environment in Physics and Astronomy more diverse, equitable and inclusive. We continue to work on developing, leading, and sustaining best practices to support diversity, equity, and inclusion in our research labs, in teams, and in our classrooms. Among the goals in our strategic plan are to develop a more inclusive culture in the department for faculty, staff and students, to increase the diversity of our students, faculty and staff, and to address challenges to ADA compliance for our work and educational environment.
