Assistant Research Scientist Zach Girazian was awarded $200,000 NASA grant to study “Solar Wind Induced Magnetic Fields in the Ionospheres of Venus and Mars”.

The grant, selected as part of NASA’s Solar System Workings Program, will fund research that explores how the solar wind affects the space environments of Venus and Mars. Using data from the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN (MAVEN) mission and the Pioneer Venus Orbiter (PVO), Zach will study magnetic fields in the upper atmospheres of Venus and Mars that are formed by the solar wind interaction. The grant also includes two years of funding for an undergraduate research assistant.
