Vinicius-Ferreira-Rodrigues

The Department of Physics and Astronomy is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of graduate student Vinicius Ferreira Rodrigues, a member of Professor Denis Candido's Condensed Matter Group, who was awarded a Gold Medal in the Physics Cup, one of the world's most challenging physics competitions. Rodrigues placed third overall among 72 recognized university student competitors and more than 2,000 participants from around the world, finishing just behind two platinum medalists, including a student from MIT. His performance represents the best result ever achieved by a Brazilian competitor in the history of the Physics Cup.

Organized by Tallinn University of Technology, the Physics Cup is an international online competition known for its exceptionally difficult physics problems, often considered more challenging than those featured in major international Olympiads. Participants tackle a series of advanced, creative problems throughout the competition, with faster and more accurate solutions earning higher scores. Rodrigues' achievement highlights both his exceptional problem-solving abilities and the strength of the department's graduate students on the international stage. The department congratulates him on this remarkable accomplishment and the historic recognition he has brought to the physics community in Brazil.
