Mike Miller, a design engineer in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, was part of a University of Iowa team that was recently granted a patent titled “Therapeutic Systems Using Magnetic Fields.”
The patent outlines a novel system that utilizes magnetic fields to interact with tissues within the body to treat diseases such as diabetes.
Dr. Calvin S. Carter in the Departments of Neuroscience and Pharmacology is the lead inventor on the team, which includes Val Sheffield, Sunny Huang, and Charles Searby in the UI Department of Pediatrics. The patent is assigned to the University of Iowa Research Foundation.
