The University of Iowa Center for Advancement posthumously honored Professor Donald Gurnett with a Distinguished Alumni Faculty Award at a Homecoming week ceremony on Oct. 28.

Marie Gurnett accepted the award on her late husband's behalf. Don and Marie's daughters Suzanne and Christina attended the ceremony along with their families.

Gurnett joins the long list of Hawkeye luminaries who have received the University of Iowa's highest alumni honor. Since 1963, the UI has recognized its world-changing graduates with the Distinguished Alumni Awards.

This video was shown during the awards ceremony, which includes retrospectives from Jim Green, Director of NASA's Planetary Science Division and Gurnett's former student, as well as Professor Emeritus Robert Mutel, who worked with Gurnett for years.
