Six staff members in the Department of Physics and Astronomy were honored on April 7 at the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences’ 21st Annual Staff Recognition Celebration in the Iowa Memorial Union.

Chris Piker, senior database administrator, received the CLAS  Mary Louise Kelley Staff Excellence Award. This award recognizes staff members in CLAS who have performed exceptional service to their department or the College. Piker was nominated for this award by Professor Craig Kletzing, Professor David Miles, Dr. William Kurth, and Dr. George Hospodarsky.

Longevity Awards were given to:

  • Joseph Groene, application developer, 30 years of service.
  • Scott Bounds, associate research scientist/engineer, 20 years of service
  • Ianos Schmidt, senior engineering associate, 20 years of service

George Hospodarsky, research scientist/engineer, and Ali Sulaiman, assistant research scientist/engineer, were recognized for their work on CLAS Staff Council.
