Our alumna Maria Drout was just named as the 2019 Polanyi Prize winner. The Polanyi Prize recognizes outstanding researchers in the early stages of their career. It is awarded annually by the Council of Ontario Universities. For those of you don’t know, Maria Drout graduated with BS in Physics and Astronomy in 2010. She was one of the strongest and most energetic students we’ve had in recent years. She went on to Cambridge University after graduation and then received her PhD from Harvard in Astronomy; her postdoc time was split between the Carnegie Institute in Pasadena and U Toronto. She is currently a tenure-track faculty member at the University of Toronto. She was here last year as a colloquium speaker.
