Congratulations to Quentin Roper for successfully defending his PhD dissertation on "Using Poisson Statistics to Analyze Supernova Remnant Emission in the Low Counts X-ray Regime."

"Quentin has developed a new statistical treatment of low surface brightness objects in the X-ray regime. He then applied these techniques to four supernova remnants in the Small Magellanic Cloud, whose analyses had previously been hampered with poor signal-to-noise data. His results yield new information on the environments these supernova remnants are expanding into, as well as provide proof-of-concept of his statistical techniques for a number of interesting astronomical objects with extended emission."
