Possible Astronomical Causes of the End-Ordivician Mass Extinction

Professor Emeritus Steve Spangler

The End-Ordivician or Late-Ordivician mass extinction occurred about 445 million years ago, and was one of the five major extinction events of the last 500 million years. The cause is not known. In this seminar, I will discuss two proposed astronomical mechanisms that might have caused this event, and describe the reasons for considering them. If you want to hear what they are, you will have to come to the talk.
