Initial Results from the TRACERS Magnetic Search Coil (MSC)

George Hospodarsky, PhD

The Magnetic Search Coil (MSC) instruments on the recently launched (July 23, 2025) TRACERS mission provide the three magnetic components of magnetic waves from ~1 Hz to 1 kHz from two closely spaced spacecraft in a circular, 590km Sun-synchronous Earth orbit. During passes through the northern and southern magnetospheric cusp, the MSC measurements help meet the TRACERS Science Objective 3: “Determine to what extent dynamic structures in the cusp are associated with temporal versus spatial reconnection”. We will briefly describe the TRACERS mission, the MSC instrument, and present some initial observations from TRACERS.
