Exercises

To answer the questions in this section you will use a set of previously-taken images of Jupiter. The pixels in these images have an angular size of 1 arcsecond.

  • Determine the start and end dates of the time span covered by your Jupiter images.  
     
  • Pick one of the images where you can see all four moons and identify each one. A sky chart program may be helpful in showing you the moons' positions at the time of your observations.
     
  • Find the orbital period of one of Jupiter' s moons using the images. Try to be as accurate as possible in making your estimate.
