Society of Physics Students

The Society of Physics Students (SPS) is the department's student leadership organization. This group plans tours and activities of interest to physics and astronomy majors. In recent years, field trips have been made to the Fermi National Accelerator Lab, the University of Iowa medical research facilities, and the National Radio Astronomy Observatory. Recent activities have included meeting with visiting speakers and former graduates of the department, hosting a lecture series for majors on faculty research and dinners for student-faculty dinners at faculty homes. This group also participates in departmental outreach activities by visiting schools and hosting school groups in the department.
