SOLAR ECLIPSE VIEWING

August 21, 2017 - 11:00am
Semicircle Space on Pentacrest and Pentacrest Lawns

In conjunction with the Sciences Library, the UI Museum of Natural History (Pentacrest Museums) and the Astronomy Club, we (the Department of Physics & Astronomy) are reserving the semicircle space on the Pentacrest as well as throughout the Pentacrest lawns on Monday, August 21st, 2017 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm for a solar eclipse viewing event.

We plan to have two tables and possibly one portable information poster screen. We are likely also to have two small portable solar telescopes set up on tripods for people to view safely the eclipse. Faculty, students and staff associated with the event will be handing out safe viewing solar eclipse glasses as well as answering questions about the solar eclipse. All first year students will have received glasses and information as part of their "On Iowa!" orientation materials.

This event is associated with the event in the Sciences Library Courtyard. We estimate many 1000s of people will walk through and view the eclipse during the event.
