"Astronomy Research at the University of Iowa: Exploring How Galaxies Evolve"

Abstract: The University of Iowa maintains a robust research program in astronomical observation and instrumentation. In the first portion of this talk, I will offer an overview what astronomy faculty are working on, painting a broad picture of astronomical research at UI. In the second half, I will focus on an outstanding question in astrophysics: “How do galaxies evolve over cosmic time?” Answering this satisfactorily requires input from the entire astronomical community and observations/instruments from across the electromagnetic spectrum. In this context, I will highlight specific projects within the last two years in which UI faculty and students address this broader question.
