Generalized Projective Gauge Gravity

A natural generalization of Thomas-Whitehead (TW) projective gauge gravity is presented. This theory projectively encodes metric-incompatible and torsional degrees of freedom within the associated curvature two-form. The former related to the dynamical diffeomorphism field. The nonlinear connection is constructed and the generalized TW fields discussed. The reduction to TW and/or other gravitational gauge theories (metric-affine, (anti)-de Sitter, etc) is shown via symmetry breaking. The reduction to TW gravity follows specifically from homographical arguments. A vacuum state is defined and some implications of this choice displayed. We conclude with the construction of general projectively invariant Euler and Pontryagin densities, whose expansion contains topological information beyond that of the Nieh-Yan density (translational Chern-Simons).
