Postdoctoral Position in Mars and Moon Research

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Iowa is searching for a postdoctoral research scientist to study the interaction between the solar wind and the atmospheres and magnetic fields of Mars and the Moon. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with Prof. Jasper Halekas and other group members at the University of Iowa, as well as other researchers from the MAVEN and ARTEMIS teams. The candidate will join a vibrant and growing space physics group at the University of Iowa, with involvement in MAVEN, ARTEMIS, Parker Solar Probe, Mars Express, Cassini, Juno, MMS, the Van Allen Probes, and e-POP, as well as sounding rockets, CubeSats, and technology development efforts. A Ph.D. in physics, planetary science, or a related field is required, and a background in space plasma physics is desirable. Previous experience in working with spacecraft data is highly desirable, and familiarity with IDL or comparable programming and computational tools is a plus.
